Spring is in the air! We are finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel after a brutally cold winter here in DC. One thing is for certain, we are all ready for some fresh air after being trapped indoors for a solid two months straight. Warm weather means happy hours, dining el fresco, farmers markets and finally shedding the layers that we have become a-custom to bundling up in. And luckily enough, we have found one glorious spot in DC to indulge in all of our favorite warm weather activities.

Union Market is a unique emporium that houses over 40 artisan retailers under one roof. Richard Brandenburg, veteran of José Andrés’s ThinkFoodGroup, has carefully curated the ultimate foodie experience and locals and tourists have definitely taken notice. Vendors range from fine food artisans, up-and-coming entrepreneurs, to well known restaurateurs all creating an overall memorable experience. You can choose to eat at a specific restaurant or if you are with a group, everyone can grab different bites from various vendors and share them at the picnic tables outside.

Many people love visiting for lunch, happy hour or dinner but our favorite time to visit is on the weekends. There is so much to do, that you can really make a day out of it. You can shop for unique gifts at Salt and Sundry, pick up fresh veggies from the local farmers, head to the Righteous Cheese for well-what they said, have a quick bite at Takorean or sit down and have fresh oysters with a glass of wine at Rappahannock Oyster Bar. Have guests visiting you for the weekend? This is the ultimate spot to bring a group of people with a variety of tastes. They also have a wide variety of events that occur on a weekly basis, so there really is never a lack of things to do at this place.

Surprisingly, this market has been a mainstay for quiet some time. It dates back to 1931, when it opened a blocks away from Union Terminal Market. Union Market has long been a DC favorite and looks like it is here to stay. It sure has come a long way since it’s latest remodel and revamp a few years back and all of the hard work has most certainly paid off. So if you are looking for a place to eat, drink and enjoy some fresh air this spring/summer, head over to Union Market for a day full of glorious gluttony, it’s sure to be a crowd pleaser.
