Madewell – Denim That Keeps On Giving

Madewell – Denim That Keeps On Giving

I love my job. Not just because of all the perks that come along with blogging but for the opportunities and experiences that I have been able to make while doing this job. I have had the honor of partnering with some pretty amazing brands on some really cool collaborations during my four years blogging but nothing has ever left me quite as fulfilled as my recent partnership with Madewell.

Over the years, I have been invited to some swanky blogger events that have been put on by brands with endless champagne and swag bags but never have I been invited to come help build a home for someone in need. I don’t think I have ever been more excited to open an email as I was when I got this one from Madewell. I thought, “Finally, a brand that is looking to make a difference and they want me to be a part of it! HECK YES, sign me up!”. It wasn’t until later on that I truly began to understand what Madewell’s mission was how much they are doing to help those in need.

By starting their Blue Jeans Go Green denim recycling program, Madewell has been able to upcycle hundreds of thousands of pairs of old donated denim into insulation to help build homes for communities in need. This recycled denim insulation is then delivered to Habitat For Humanity home builds that are going on all over the country. That is where we came into play.

Madewell outfitted myself and a few DC bloggers you may know, Julien, Tammy and Abby in denim, Habitat For Humanity lent us the hammers and we got to work. Our jobs for the day were unloading an entire semi-truck of denim insulation into the warehouse and then in the afternoon, we were tasked with building framing for the 12 units that were being built in Ivy City. We worked from 8am-3pm doing whatever the Habitat For Humanity staff needed us to do and while it was hard physical work it felt SOOOO GOOOD to do something impactful.

I left feeling tired from the work we had done but I haven’t felt more fulfilled in a long time. I now have a whole new respect for Madewell as a company and know that I will be a loyal lifetime customer because of this experience. I not only will be shopping at Madewell for all my denim from here on out but I also can’t wait to get back to help the folks at Habitat For Humanity. There is so much work that needs to be done and they need our help to finish these projects up so they can move families in need in. If you would like to donate your time or your funds to Habitat For Humanity, click here.

Ready to donate your old denim for a good cause? Not only will you have the comfort of knowing that your favorite old jeans are helping to keep a family in need stay warm but you also get the perk of receiving $20 off your next pair at Madewell (for each pair you donate). Something everyone can feel good about.
