Coffee, Clothes, And Photographs

Coffee, Clothes, and PhotographsCoffee, Clothes, And Photographs

This post is very long overdue. About a year ago I was approached by a college student named Emma to take my photos. She asked me to meet her at a coffee shop in DC and that we would take some photos for her portfolio and for my blog. I was optimistic as I have done a few of these meet ups where the sessions don’t quite go as I had planned. But things were different with Emma, she was a bit shy but when she got behind the camera, the girl knew what she wanted and she made it happen. After getting our first set of images back, I knew that I had found my girl. Not only did she get my esthetic, she knew how to tell a story through the images.

I admit, blogging is a strange occupation. I know that taking photos of my brunch before letting my friends eat can get slightly annoying for everyone involved and I get my fair share of funny looks as I perfectly stage my latte for a snap. It’s also pretty strange to plan out photo shoots where I change into 3 or 4 different outfits in a coffee shop bathroom.  I get it, it’s weird but after years of struggling with the insecurities of putting my photos and opinions out there for the world to see, I have finally learned to embrace it and that is largely because of Emma. She makes me laugh and somehow makes my awkward-self look way cooler in my photos than I am in real life. We have a ton of fun together when we shoot and always end up cracking up from random comments from people passing by. Or there was even that time a construction worker sang to us and then offered to take us for a spin on his motorcycle. That day was classic.

Regardless, it’s always an adventure when I shoot with Emma. She has introduced me to dozens of local coffee shops that I had never stepped foot in previously, she has taught me to embrace my awkwardness and feel comfortable in front of the lens. So if you are a blogger, a coffee lover or someone who has a thing for ridiculously gorgeous photography, then you should follow Emma and all that this girl is doing. Because this #girlboss is kicking ass and taking names.
