Weak Is Out – Strong Is In Working in an industry where skinny is the standard has become increasingly infuriating to me. You can’t flip through a high fashion magazine without finding a slew of frail models covering the pages. Our tv’s, runways and social media have been flooded with these body types, so it’s no wonder we have been trained to think this is the epitome of beauty. But we are at the height of feminine empowerment and are fighting for equality in the work-force, encouraging women around the world to stand up for what they believe in, and to no longer sit back and be quiet. So why is it still fashionable to look powerless and weak? The stigma around being a “muscular woman” also angers me. Just because a woman has defined biceps, doesn’t mean that she can’t also be incredibly feminine. The strong women I know work incredibly hard for their bodies, and there’s something to be said for that. It took me three years of consistent work in the gym to build the muscle I have now and train my body to be strong. Isn’t that something to be proud of? I think it is. […]

I remember the days when I thought that the thinner I was the more beautiful I would appear. For years I lusted after smaller arms, a larger thigh gap and a flatter stomach. I thought if I could just look more like the models I saw on the pages of ELLE Magazine that I would finally be content with what I saw in the mirror. But as I acheived each goal, I never found myself basking in the satisfaction that I had hoped for and let’s be honest I was probably pretty unhealthy and weak AF. I think many of us go through some of this as we grow up and many of us are still going through this now. We are constantly comparing ourselves to others and wishing we could be more like them. But why? Why isn’t who we are or the body we were blessed with good enough? While I don’t have all the answers, this is what made things finally click for me. Instead of worrying about how skinny my legs looked in those new Rag and Bone skinnies, I spent my time working on finding what made me happy. I found that happiness in Crossfit. I […]

A vacation is a great excuse to leave your responsibilities at home, nothing feels better than turning off the emails and letting your phone go to voicemail while you sip pina coladas by the pool. Am I right? But there’s one thing that shouldn’t take a holiday, and that’s your health and fitness. Taking a week off from working out can throw you off your game, mentally and physically, and it makes it 10x harder to go back to your routine once you return home. Believe me, I have been there! Many people think I am crazy because I make working out such a priority when I am vacationing. Maybe I am crazy but I just find it a whole lot easier to stick with my workout program if I stay consistent. A few days/weeks off and I’m feeling lethargic in the gym or I may not even want to show up at all. So for me, it is much easier to get a few workouts in while I’m vacationing or traveling, so that it doesn’t throw everything off when I return home and back to my normal routine. That doesn’t mean you have to set aside an entire day during your vacation or even find […]
