Have you ever been to a restaurant where you ordered a dish that was so incredible that it left you thinking about it all the time? I have, more times than I can count. Recently, I had a bowl of french onion soup at Bistro Francais that totally blew my mind. After returning home in a state of total cheese and onion overload, and I mean that in the best way possible, I knew I had to make a choice. I could continue to frequent this restaurant as much as humanly possible or I could try to recreate this delicious concoction at home. Since driving into DC every time I crave this little bowl of heaven would be a little ridiculous, I decided to try my hand at recreating Bistro Francais’ french onion soup at home. And after many attempts I finally came up with something that almost compares and something you most definitely should try. (recipe below) Ingredients (serves 6+) 1/2 cup butter 4 onion white onions, sliced 2 garlic cloves, minced 2 bay leaves 1 teaspoon of chopped rosemary Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper 1 cup of decent red wine 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour 2 quarts beef broth or […]

If you haven’t been yet, you will definitely want to roundup your girls and plan a girls night asap. We are talking about our favorite new spot here in DC, The Gryphon. The atmosphere is luxurious and the decor is inviting and energetic, which sets the stage for an epic girls night out. You can tell the owners really took the time and effort with each detail, from the eye catching signage outside, to the unique mounted griffin head decor. Their raw bar and dry-age steak room is beyond impressive and hands down beats out the neighboring competition which is why we had to spread the word! The Gryphon was top on our list when planning a recent girls night out because of their SUPPER CLUB feel and lively, upbeat environment. The DJ makes his appearance every Friday and Saturday night, which turns the place up a notch and transforms this fine dining restaurant into one of the hottest options for DC night life. After 12am the restaurant becomes more of a lounge with bottle service and dancing. So if you can hang past midnight, then they are there to keep the party going for you. They easily accommodate to private […]

Soup season is here and I’m pretty excited about it. There is nothing more satisfying on a cold, chilly night than a homemade bowl of warm soup or chowder. It has become a weekly ritual in our household to try a new recipe and save our favorites. A pot full of soup in the fridge will feed us for days. It is a cost efficient and belly filling means to stay warm on cold nights. It all began thanks to my From the Farmer delivery and receiving two heads of cabbage, that’s a lot of cabbage! So I had to think of something to do with it… sauerkraut…kimchi… nope, both too complex. Due to a slam packed week and a limited window of opportunity I decided to go with soup – chop it up, add spices, cover. Too easy. Below is a basic, easy cabbage and potatoes soup recipe. The ingredients are simple and you can edit to your preference. This one pot soup is delicious and so easy to pull together. I went with the following: 2 tablespoons of olive oil 2 carrots, diced 2 stalks celery, diced 2 cloves garlic, minced 6 cups vegetable broth 2 medium gold potatoes, diced 1/2 head large […]
