“Every cloud has a silver lining.” -it’s refreshing to go about life with such optimism and positivity. However it is not always the easiest, I and many others can vouch to this as well. This outfit post inspired me to dig a bit deeper and reflect on myself. I’m sure you have seen this pink wall before. It’s all over IG, we’ve featured it in the past and it won’t be the last that we do because the color is just too fun. Shooting at this location can be awkward at times when you have people constantly watching, driving by, or simply judging you as they’re taking their shots. But then a little boy and his dad approached me and wanted to take a picture with me and in that moment I was reminded of how non serious this is. I am shy and I tend to over analyze and over think anything and everything. I’m one to call out my flaws and unfortunately be more of a “glass half empty” girl at times. The older I get though, the more I’ve opened up, accepted and actually retained knowledge and experiences. Like so many others, I’m on that journey to finding oneself. So thanks […]

I turn 31 today. A number I thought I would cringe to see on my birthday cake, but so far it’s not so bad. In fact, it’s the reason I am writing my very first birthday blog post. I wanted to share with you my highs and lows of last year but most importantly why I am so grateful to be here and why 31 really is just a number. This time last year … the BIG 3-0 …my husband had planned an elaborate birthday dinner for me but unfortunately I came down with the flu and homemade chicken noodle soup was the highlight of my night. As I am writing this, ironically enough it is 8:16pm on a Sunday and my husband is passed out in bed next to me from night time tylenol flu. I clearly have had a lot of time on my hands this evening to stop and reflect upon life at 30. It has been a good year. I’ve progressed in areas, found new success, and traveled to new places. However, it has been one of my hardest years to date. I began my 30’s with a lot of change and all at once: I moved across country – […]

DC is known for many things; politics, tourism, museums and the overwhelming amount of events and receptions that occur on a daily basis. Living and working in DC we partake in many of these activities but as we have gotten older, we tend to choose a bit more wisely on what we actually attend. When an invite was passed our way to the Walk This Way fashion show to help raise awareness and money for Becky’s Fund, it was a no brainer that we would attend. The event was held to help raise funds for their “Men of Code” program, which helps educate and coach young male athletes about domestic violence in efforts to help them end violence against women and girls through training and mentorship that builds healthy relationships and leadership skills. The Walk This Way Fashion Show was held at the beautiful Italian Embassy where many famous athletes and celebrities walked the runway to raise over $200,000 for this amazing cause. We even saw some of our favorite Redskin’s players strut their stuff including Pierre Garçon, Kai Forbath, Chris Baker and Andre Roberts to name a few. Becky Lee, the beauty and brains behind Becky’s fund, packed the embassy full of 500 of DC’s finest movers […]

Funny story, last month my husband showed up to a black-tie wedding wearing a khaki linen suit.. Apparently I had forgotten to read the fine print on the bottom of the wedding invitation and he wasn’t too happy with me but after handing him a few whiskeys from the open bar, he seemed to care a lot less. After our epic failure and having received a few similar questions from readers, we wanted to help clarify the many misunderstood wedding dress codes out there and who better to help us with this task then a wedding expert? Meet Laura Ritchie, not only our fabulous sorority sister, but also the Founder of Events in the City. She’s the go to girl when you are looking to plan your dream wedding. Laura and her team have crafted a well deserved reputation for throwing some of the best and most creative events all over town because of their style, diverse backgrounds in fashion, film, hotels, catering, project management and their miticulous attention to detail. Laura has seen many guests rock “creative black-tie” like a boss and more than a few wardrobe disasters in their day so we were excited when she agreed to answer a few questions for us. Laura helped us […]
