Online shopping, we all do it because it’s convenient, takes a click of a mouse and your shiny new treasures are on the way. I’m as guilty as anyone, because I do my fair share of point and click shopping but what if that was our only option? What if you could no longer stroll the charming streets of your town on a Saturday or pop into your favorite local boutique for a dress for an event you have that night? What if your home town was filled with nothing big box stores and Amazon pick up locations? That could soon be our reality if we don’t make a change. In the last year, we made a few big changes of our own. We moved from Arlington to Alexandria, Virginia and I bought a new business, The Alexandria Scout Guide. While the move was only 15 miles away, it feels like an entirely different world. We loved the close proximity to dc, the airport and our friends’ houses but the temptation of more land and a peaceful retreat to call our own was much more enticing to us at this point in our lives. Little did we know we would […]

My Old Town Alexandria Staycation Guide I’m all about a staycation, especially one that involves my husband and two rescue mutts. Sometimes its just nice to get out of the house, away from the gazillion projects you have in front of you and the list of chores you haven’t gotten to either. No need to stress about the laundry that needs to be folded or the lawn that has to be mowed, instead it’s all about spending quality time together. After being on the road and away from our pups for most of the summer, we were stoked to check in to the brand new Hotel Indigo in Old Town Alexandria with our fur children. We had heard amazing things about the new hotel and we had been dying to check it out and it exceeded our expectations and then some. From the moment we set foot in the door to the time we left, we were treated with the upmost care. The staff was super helpful, kind, and attentive. Our room was impeccably designed and the views of the water front weren’t half bad either. After we settled in and Hank made himself at home and we quickly headed […]

Online shopping may be convenient but it certainly lacks the personal touch and customer service that local shops provide. We are guilty of doing much of our shopping online but when we do head out to pick things up for ourselves or to select gifts for others, we usually make a b-line for The Old Town Alexandria Boutique District. There are so many cute and unique shops that are owned and operated by great people in our community and we love being able to support these hard working individuals. Not to mention their stores are filled with thoughtful and noteworthy items that you just can’t find in a generic department store. A few of our favorite shops in the Old town area are: The Shoe Hive, She’s Unique for jewelry, Current Boutique for consignment and vintage and our new favorite Coco Blanca for fashion and home decor. We recently had the opportunity to collaborate with our new friends at Coco Blanca for a few style posts for local blog, Alexandria Stylebook. We had so much fun playing dress up with their beautiful selection of clothing for the holiday inspired shoot that we took part in; one look was casual and the other dressy. […]
