Ramen is quite possibly one of the most popularized Asian dishes in America these days. It is no longer reserved for college students who spent all their money on booze and are left eating out of a styrofoam cup. When you live in one of the nation’s top tourist destinations, you tend to steer clear of anything that remotely resembles a tourist trap. I actually go out of my way to avoid these tourist infested areas. Not trying to rag on visitors to our city, I welcome them with open arms but when it comes to going to dinner or out for a drink the last thing I want to do is wait in a long line for something that is just mediocre. It’s just not something that I’m in to. So whether you just moved to DC, are a seasoned resident of the District, or are touring the city for the first time, I am sharing some of my local favorites that will help you avoid the herds of matching teeshirts and will leave others believing you are a legit DC local. Thread at Union Market

This weekend, Michelle and I went to check out the first ever Thread event at Union Market in DC. First of all, if you have never been to Union Market, you must get in your car and drive there as quickly as possible. Not only does this unique market have some of the hottest restaurants, good booze and cute shops but they also have a farmers market on the weekends. My absolute favorite thing to eat at Union Market are the korean tacos from Takorean, you have to try the Bulgogi Taco with Kimchi Slaw (you can thank me later). But I might not be seeing them as often as usual because my all time favorite ramen shop, Toki Underground, has a Pop-Up-Shop set up there for the next month. If you see a blonde chick slurping ramen in the corner..odds are that will be me. Enough about food, let’s talk about Thread. Thread was located upstairs (above the market) from Friday to Sunday this past weekend.
