Summer Workout Tips Living in DC, we all know how hot and sweaty it can get here in the summertime. The humidity can be god awful during the summer months and sometimes the last thing you want to do is hit the gym. Instead of giving in to the extreme heat, I’m sharing my tips to keep myself cool even in the sweatiest of months! Drink LOTS of Water – This is something that I always struggle with but it’s super important in the hot summer months. The more you sweat, the more water you need. So make sure you are drinking plenty of water before, during and after workouts. Be sure you are getting AT LEAST 0.4 to 0.8 liters per hour. After exercise, drink 16 to 24 ounces of water for every pound lost. To get ahead of this, drink 4 glasses of water when you first wake up and be sure to have a bottle with you at all times to keep hydrated! Wear Sweat-Wicking Materials- Cotton is the worst material to wear in the summer heat. It soaks up sweat like a towel, holding the moisture against your skin and causing your body temperature to increase. […]

10 Tips To Keep Your Nutrition On Track While Traveling Staying on track with your nutrition while traveling can be tricky (but not impossible!) Whether you are tracking your macros on our #52DayShred program or if you are following paleo or Whole 30 diets, it can be challenging to stick with it when you are on the road. So many temptations at your fingertips, just waiting to throw you off track. So instead of giving in and giving up while you travel, we’ve come up with our top 10 travel tips to keep your progress going even while on your trip. Bring portable workout equipment with you (i.e. jump rope, resistance bands, sliders). Our weekly workouts can be done almost anywhere, including hotel gyms. Any hotel room can also be turned into a workout space with a few feet of floor space, some bodyweight exercises, and a little creativity! Looking for a CrossFit box while you’re out of town? Download The Drop In App! Find the nearest box, pay to drop in, and sign the waiver automatically, wherever in the world you go. Show up and workout—the rest is done before you arrive. Request a mini-fridge and microwave for your […]

Just because cooler weather is on the way and big boxy sweaters are all the rage doesn’t mean that it’s ok to go MIA from the gym. It’s easy to fall off the wagon when we don’t have swimsuit season to worry about, but it’s even harder to get back on it after an entire winter of hibernation. Sure, we all splurge a bit more over the holidays, and that’s OK in my book but staying consistent year round with your exercise is important if you want to maintain overall health and achieve the body that you are after. Motivation to head to the gym can be extremely hard to find, regardless of what month it is. There are a million other things going on in your life that are probably way more fun or feel more important than getting in a sweat sesh, but it is more important than you think. Of course, you should get in shape for the obvious reasons, like fitting in your favorite denim but also because it increases your energy levels, improves your mood, fights diseases, promotes better sleep and much more. I find myself going nuts when I can’t make it to the gym each day and […]

Strange heading for a post I know. In all honesty, it’s something that I do a lot but I’ll get more into that later. What do you daydream about? I feel like I’m constantly living in a daydream and sometimes need to be pulled back to reality. It’s either about work, life goals, my next vacation, or even what I’m going to have for dinner. You name it, I have probably daydreamed about it. But recently it’s been about squatting and the reason is because I haven’t been able to do it in months. As some of you may know I tore my labrum in my hip a few months ago and have been struggling with what to do to fix it. The options were: do nothing and live with the pain, surgery to repair the tear or to try a new cutting edge injection called PRP. Knowing that I couldn’t live with the pain or having to cut back on being as active as I am, I went to a few doctors and got a few different opinions. After many doctors visits and about a month of weighing my options, I decided that I would rather try PRP before I […]
