I kid you not, the other week my husband implied that I should be wearing more “mom dresses”. My immediate reaction was that he wanted me to wear more girly dresses now that I am a mom, which offended me but then I got to thinking … what makes a “mom friendly” dress? Comfort (comes first), care (something that can with stand dirt, throw up, food, and whatever else comes its way) and of course cuteness because a cute dress next to a cute baby works well together. Right? So that day I was headed to Target like most moms on a weekly basis picking up the usual – diapers, wipes, and whatever other random stuff I can find that I don’t need – and for once had a shopping purpose for myself. I browsed the women’s section which I never do and came across the Who What Wear line. Some cute stuff but for the most part not my style until I stumbled upon this black dress with the cutest “girly” details for only $29! I was afraid it would come across like a moo moo but took my chances, purchased and I would say it was quite the success! I […]

We have always been huge fans of Theory and the concept of finding the perfect fit within your clothing. Sounds simple but we all know how difficult this can be to achieve. With many countless hours in various fitting rooms, attempting to find the perfect light to stump ours brains to thinking the fit isn’t that bad until we go home and regret all hours wasted. At Theory, this is never the case because somehow they have mastered this to perfection with style, innovation and constant inspiration. Theory was built around the idea of the perfect shirt and essential pant. Something we all need in our wardrobe. My theory is that they mastered all things clothing and decided to embark on the next challenge … accessories! I was so excited to find out that Theory finally came out with their own line of accessories which launched this month. Their collection of bags and accessories embody everything we desire from a life long bag partner … reliable, luxurious, practical and most of all just flat out stunning. My favorite is The Whitney Hoop. The hardware was made to perfection and the versatility is fun and easy to wear as a cross body during the day, […]

Do you ever find yourself wondering where the time has gone? I have found this happening a lot to me recently. Either I’m too focused on my consulting work, working on growing my business or traveling for the blog that I sometimes forget about important things going on in my life. I have forgotten to pick up the milk numerous times at the grocery store, was two months late getting my car inspected and have been late sending out wedding and baby shower gifts. All things that are absolutely inexcusable! Work is important but so is life and being present during it. I don’t want to wake up in 5 years and realize that I missed out on some of the most important years of my life. These are things I have been struggling with since I decided to go full time working on 52 Thursdays Consulting and hoping that I will find that happy work/life balance soon. That means taking time off on the weekends, stopping work at a decent hour and putting my phone away whenever possible. I’m not saying this all will happen over night but I am a work in progress and hoping that my efforts will help make […]

Funny story, last month my husband showed up to a black-tie wedding wearing a khaki linen suit.. Apparently I had forgotten to read the fine print on the bottom of the wedding invitation and he wasn’t too happy with me but after handing him a few whiskeys from the open bar, he seemed to care a lot less. After our epic failure and having received a few similar questions from readers, we wanted to help clarify the many misunderstood wedding dress codes out there and who better to help us with this task then a wedding expert? Meet Laura Ritchie, not only our fabulous sorority sister, but also the Founder of Events in the City. She’s the go to girl when you are looking to plan your dream wedding. Laura and her team have crafted a well deserved reputation for throwing some of the best and most creative events all over town because of their style, diverse backgrounds in fashion, film, hotels, catering, project management and their miticulous attention to detail. Laura has seen many guests rock “creative black-tie” like a boss and more than a few wardrobe disasters in their day so we were excited when she agreed to answer a few questions for us. Laura helped us […]
