Going The Distance… I am not a runner. I may love most forms of exercise, but long distance running is something that I just can’t wrap my head around. It’s not the endurance that bothers me; it’s the mental game. Before I started training for this 10-mile race, I think the farthest I had ever made it was like 5 miles. Why would anyone ever want to run farther than that? Isn’t that why we have cars? You are probably asking yourself, “well, if you hate running, then why did you sign up to run a 10-mile race?” And while I dislike running, I also hate turning down a challenge even more. When Nava Health and Vitality Center approached me a few months back to try their NavaRace package, while I prepped for the Baltimore 10-Miler, and blog about the entire journey, I thought that it would be awesome to treat my body to some extra care because lord knows I beat it up with the amount of lifting and CrossFit that I do. I also knew 10 miles would be a challenge for me, and that is one of the reasons I decided to go through with this. I […]

Race Prep with Nava Health and Vitality Center I am currently three weeks into my race training for the Baltimore 10 miler and thanks to Nava Health and Vitality Center, I am feeling pretty darn good. That might be partially because I haven’t quite worked up to my training mileage yet because I have found it hard to train for this race while maintaining my CrossFit workouts but none the less, Nava has worked wonders on my body. Training 5 days a week for CrossFit and adding in 3 runs per week can take a toll on your body, so making sure I am taking care of it properly to recover is absolutely necessary. I have been visiting Nava once per week to receive a different treatment (part of their race training package) each time while I am leading up to my race. So far I have had a wellness consult, chiropractic appointment, massage therapy and my first ever experience with acupuncture (which I shared about on Insta Stories). While each appointment at Nava has been very different, every treatment has been an amazing experience that has left me feel relaxed, revived and like I just stepped out of the […]

It’s no secret that I love things that get me sweaty. That includes working out, hot foods and steamy weather. But one thing that might surprise you is that I despise long distance running, even though the sweat-equity is super high on this one. I would rather lift weights, sprint, row, jump rope, pretty much would rather do anything other than go on a long distance run. So when I signed up for the Baltimore 10 miler, my husband thought I had lost my mind. While the verdict is still out on that one, I am still lacing up my running shoes and training for my first long distance race ever. While I do feel very physically fit and my body is ready for almost anything, I don’t think my mind is quite there yet. It’s the mental game that really intimidates me about long distance running. How do you keep yourself moving for 10 miles without breaking to walk? What do you think about? I feel like I will be bored after mile 1! Help! So along with training my brain for this race, I am also training my body by increasing my runs each week, adding more track work into […]
