Fall Fashion: Simplify Your Style

Simplify your style … Fall might be one of the most loved seasons over the year simply because it’s the most fun to dress for. Colder weather allows for more layering which means more opportunity for trends, unexpected styling and cozy, comfortable looks. But what do you do when the weather just isn’t cooperating? When you are over summer dressing but it’s just not cold enough to pull out your favorite sweaters and oversized jackets just yet. Well I use this transitional period to simplify my fall looks with easy throw on dresses. It’s comfortable, breathable and can easily pass for fall dressing by pairing with some cute booties or over the knee boots. I always love to add a wool hat to complete the look because it’s another element of styling with out actually layering the look and complicating the simplicity of the ensemble. The Little Black Dress

So … It’s December and temps are just now dropping in to a consistent high of 60 degrees. This means I don’t have to wear your typical winter clothes, at least not just yet. This also means this little black dress from South Moon Under has been on a serious repeat. I have been pairing this effortless LBD with my favorite over the knee boots to give the look a bit more of a “colder weather feel”. Now don’t get me wrong, once the sun sets the temperatures drop here in LA and that’s when I can enjoy my cool, brisk nightly walks with the fur baby and hubby. It’s my favorite part of the day. Throw on a leather jacket, blazer or coat with my dress and I’m set for the evening. It’s my go to piece for ease and comfort in the most stylish way. Light Fall Layering

I’m not sure if I should be happy or sad that the coldest southern California gets is the low 50’s. The change of seasons and cold weather tied to the holidays this time of year really carries a special sentiment and makes me miss being back home on the East Coast. I suppose when I start hearing about the cold, bitter days and slushy roads with predictions for more snow, then maybe I will feel a bit more excited about making my way to the beach in the middle of February like when I first moved here. But for now I will just have to partake in fall dressing with light layering and knee high boots any chance I get. Layering a white or denim button down under a shirt always elevates your outfit and gives that unexpected take on a basic top. I love popping a crisp collar on top of another texture for a sophisticated, clean layering which is perfect for achieving a cozy look with out being too hot. Winter Sales & Splurges

Shopping is a personal thing. We all have different styles, budgets and looks we are trying to achieve. So when it comes to your go-to store, we may all have different opinions and thats a-ok. As many of you may already know, my shopping go-to is Zara. They are always on trend, have exactly what I am looking for and all for a reasonable price. Recently they marked down all of their fall/winter merchandise to make room for spring, so I have been loading up that online cart a bit more than usual. This plaid shirt-dress was a major score for me because of it’s extreme versatility. When shopping, I don’t usually gravitate towards fads or trendy pieces. If I make a purchase, I want it to last at least two seasons, no matter what the cost. So I try to keep my purchases classic. I will be wearing this shirt-dress with jeans, tights and on warmer days with bare legs and tall boots. Now lets talk splurges.
