Soup season is here and I’m pretty excited about it. There is nothing more satisfying on a cold, chilly night than a homemade bowl of warm soup or chowder. It has become a weekly ritual in our household to try a new recipe and save our favorites. A pot full of soup in the fridge will feed us for days. It is a cost efficient and belly filling means to stay warm on cold nights. It all began thanks to my From the Farmer delivery and receiving two heads of cabbage, that’s a lot of cabbage! So I had to think of something to do with it… sauerkraut…kimchi… nope, both too complex. Due to a slam packed week and a limited window of opportunity I decided to go with soup – chop it up, add spices, cover. Too easy. Below is a basic, easy cabbage and potatoes soup recipe. The ingredients are simple and you can edit to your preference. This one pot soup is delicious and so easy to pull together. I went with the following: 2 tablespoons of olive oil 2 carrots, diced 2 stalks celery, diced 2 cloves garlic, minced 6 cups vegetable broth 2 medium gold potatoes, diced 1/2 head large […]

Did you know that your produce doesn’t usually arrive at the grocery store until a week after harvest? Shocking, right? I’m sure we all want the freshest and most nutrient-rich foods that available, so why is it so hard to obtain high quality produce? Well, I have some good news! The founders of From The Farmer have heard our cry loud and clear and created the most genius and convenient way to get farm fresh foods to us, the consumers, in record time. The creators do just what their catchphrase claims: bring produce from “Farm to Front Door”! They deliver seasonal items to your home on a weekly basis. Best of all? It”s surprisingly affordable! Baskets are completely customizable and there is no commitment—something we love since we travel so often! From the Farmer works with local farms that love what they do. You can almost taste the pride in their work in every bite. We were lucky enough to partner with this amazing local company to try out their service, taste their food and report back to you with our honest opinions—and a few recipes we came up with just for our readers. My first basket arrived at the crack of dawn last Tuesday. […]

After a long day of work the last thing I really want to do is make dinner and coming up with the dish is half the battle. We eat pretty healthy in this household and always try to make everything from scratch so we know what we are putting in to our bodies. The effort can be a little overwhelming and at times a lot of work having to plan and gather all the ingredients. Because of this we are always trying to come up with new easy dishes to make. I think I may have found my favorite effortless entree that I wanted to share! You can add and edit as you please but the two must have ingredients are chicken drumsticks and kale. For this recipe I added sliced carrots and onions but usually combine baby potatoes as well. What makes this plate so delicious is the chicken juice that is soaked up by the carrots, onions and potatoes and then baked creating a very flavorful and mouth watering dish. It’s so easy to whip up and throw in the oven for an hour while you do a quick work out video or enjoy a glass of wine or two. To each their […]

I just finished my very last juice of a 3 day juice cleanse founded locally in Bethesda, MD called Puree Artisan Juice Bar. Once or twice a year I like to do a 3 day juice cleanse to help motivate me to eat healthier in the new year or get back on track. The ingredients consists of only water and fresh unpasteurized fruit and vegetable juices. In the past I have tried Blue Print and Cooler Cleanse which were delivered from NY. All three were pretty comparable in price ($150-175), however for fellow Washingtonians the Puree ends up cheaper when factoring shipping and handling. It was also quite rewarding to support a local small business and their juices were surprisingly all delicious and satisfying. I definitely will be using them again! I started off with the classic 3 day cleanse, which includes 18 juices (6 per day), 3 beet shots and a ginger shot. The green juice in comparison to the previous 2 companies was the most delicious and the carrot juice tasted like dessert to me. I also enjoyed the beet shots rather than making it into a full 16oz drink (not a huge beet fan). The ginger shot was to […]
