Fresh Sesame Tuna Salad

We just finished a 3 day juice cleanse at South Block Juice bar which has really helped me reevaluate what I eat and drink.  That’s what I love about juicing, it helps break the cycle of dependence on saturated fats, refined carbohydrates, processed foods, and excess caffeine and alcohol.  It truly has helped ease my food decision making while reducing my appetite which is why I wanted to share with you guys an easy, healthy and very delicious meal that I have been obsessed with since completing my juice cleanse.  We call it…Fresh Sesame Tuna Salad!

This is one of my favorite dishes that my husband and I came up with because it’s light and refreshing for warmer temperatures and will help you build and maintain that beach bod we are forever striving for.  Sigh.

I am not a big seafood fan, but have tried several big girl times to eat more fish as they are beneficial to our health.  (Fish has Omega 3 which helps lower your blood pressure, reduces the risk of heart disease and Alzheimer’s and signs of Schizophrenia and Depression. Oh, and it also helps improve your skin and hair. Bonus points!)  I believe that we came up with a nice balance by pairing the tuna with fresh ingredients and seasoning for a healthy and flavorful meal that helped mask any fishy flavor there ever may have been.

What you will need…

  • 1 lb of Tuna
  • 1 Avocado
  • 1/2 Cucumber
  • 1 Mango
  • 1 Red Pepper
  • Salt and Pepper to season
  • Sesame Seeds
  • 1 tbs. Sesame Oil

IMG_1415IMG_1419Dice up avocado, cucumber, mango and red pepper and place in bowl.  Cut strips of Tuna and layer each side with salt, pepper & sesame seeds.  In a frying pan lightly cook each side of tuna in sesame oil for less than 2 min (for med. rare) on medium heat.  Place tuna on top of freshly cut fruit and vegetables and drizzle fig glaze to your liking.  (If you don’t have this glaze you can easily substitute for Balsamic Vinegar).

My husband served this dish with rice for a hardier meal but alone is quite refreshing.
